Islanders shoot for fourth straight win in test with Devils

Hockey Betting Lines

11/21/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The New York Islanders will try to extend their season-high winning streak to four games when they visit the New Jersey Devils for an Atlantic Division matchup at Prudential Center.

After sweeping a home-and-home series with Ottawa last week, the Isles made it three straight wins with Monday's shootout victory over visiting Vancouver. Frans Nielsen scored the lone goal in the deciding segment to lift New York to the 2-1 decision at Nassau Coliseum.

Joey MacDonald stopped 31-of-32 shots for the Isles, while Doug Weight tallied the lone regulation score for New York.

New York's winning streak has come on the heels of a three-game slide. The current stretch is the longest hot streak for the Isles since they won six in a row from February 12-21 of last season.

Tonight marks the start of a three-game road trip for the Islanders, who are 3-3-1 as the visiting club this year. New York will also make stops in Buffalo and Montreal during the swing.

Meanwhile, the Devils have posted back-to-back victories for the first time since the injury to franchise goaltender Martin Brodeur. New Jersey's latest victory came Thursday night against the visiting Florida Panthers.

Patrik Elias and Brian Gionta each had a goal and an assist to lead the Devils to the 3-1 decision. Jersey will now try to notch its first three-game winning streak since October 16-22.

Paul Martin scored the other goal while Scott Clemmensen made 23 saves for the Devils, who had dropped four in a row before recording consecutive wins.

Clemmensen has been the winner in both of Jersey's last two wins, although he did allowed five goals in last Saturday's 6-5 shootout victory over the Washington Capitals.

The Devils are 6-4-1 as the host this year and are completing a three-game homestand this evening. The club will begin a five-game road trip Sunday in Tampa.

New Jersey earned a 2-1 home decision over the Isles back on October 10 and has won two straight in three of the last four meetings between the clubs. New York is 3-2-0 in five all-time trips to the Prudential Center, which opened last season.

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds

With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.

Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season.  Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.

This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy.  A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.
