Dolphins LB Taylor to retire after season

12/28/2011 - Davie, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - After 15 NFL seasons, Jason Taylor said Wednesday that he is ready to retire.

The Miami Dolphins linebacker announced that Sunday's season finale against the New York Jets will be his last game in the league.

Taylor said he was looking forward to soaking in his last days as an NFL player, but also eager to prepare for the game.

The 37-year-old outside linebacker played all but two of his seasons for the Dolphins in a prolific career as one of the NFL's best defensive stars.

He has 139.5 sacks, the most among active players and sixth-best in league history.

"While he may be retiring as a player, he will always remain an integral part of the Dolphin family, contributing to the team and the community he has grown to love," said Dolphins owner Stephen Ross

"We congratulate him for all he has done, and we are looking forward to continuing to work with him as he begins the next chapter of his life."

Taylor played for the Washington Redskins in 2008 and the Jets last year in his only stints away from Miami. He signed his last contract with the Dolphins in August.

A six-time Pro Bowl selection and 2006 Defensive Player of the Year, Taylor has 577 career tackles and eight interceptions.

Will he or won't he?  Now that the Dallas Cowboys have a new head coach in Wade Phillips, the big question will be: Does Terrell Owens stay with the team.

Jerry Jones continues to suggest that Terrell Owens will remain with the team.
