The eighth-seeded Dent was ousted by Japan's Go Soeda 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 on Day 1 at the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Dent popped 10 aces, but also piled up nine double faults and had his serve broken three times in the setback.

The 29-year-old Dent titled here back in 2002.

Another upset came when American wild card Ryan Harrison doused sixth-seeded Slovakian Karol Beck 6-1, 6-2.

In some other opening-round action, Jamaican Dustin Brown outlasted German Bjorn Phau 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (7-9), 6-4 and Canadian Frank Dancevic took out Frenchman Marc Gicquel 7-5, 6-4.

This week's top seeds are American Sam Querrey and Colombian Santiago Giraldo. Lucky-loser Rajeev Ram upset a third-seeded Querrey in last year's all- American finale here.

The winner of this $500,000 post-Wimbledon event will collect $75,700.

Will he or won't he?  Now that the Dallas Cowboys have a new head coach in Wade Phillips, the big question will be: Does Terrell Owens stay with the team.

Jerry Jones continues to suggest that Terrell Owens will remain with the team.
